Culture
Women are to be witty but not serious thinkers, and they are supposed to look proper to make their husband look good.
- Cecily is taught by Miss Prism, yet she fantasizes and behaves shallow.
- Gwendolen has wit, yet she acts immature.
- Lady Bracknell believes that education has no effect, and that a woman shouldn't think about their own engagement.
- Jack is questioned over where he lives and who his friends are by Lady Bracknell when she is considering his engagement to Gwendolen.
- When Algernon arrives at the Manner House he greats Cecily first. He then introduces himself to Jack, so he follows the proper procedure.
- Gwendolen accepts Jack's proposal with out Lady Bracknell's permission, but Lady Bracknell feels the need to question Jack in order to see if he is fitting.
